Artifacts Tab

This tab displays the real-time artifacts present in the data. All calculations are performed on the Spatial Filter 1 timeseries.

Note

Only "Eyeblink" and "Range" are currently used in calculations by the bossdevice. Muscle and Preinnervation are for display only.

When "Eyeblink" and "Range" (and "Amplitude under the "Oscillations" tab) are within the defined thresholds, the "Clean signal status" will be green, and if a protocol is running, the bossdevice will be able to trigger.

To set or change the thresholds, turn on the "Artifacts" display by clicking the toggle and click on the plot along the y-axis where you would like the threshold to be. The thresholds will be unique for each participant and each Spatial Filter design. Thresholds can be changed throughout the session and reset to default by clicking the "Reset Threshold" buttons. Resetting a threshold only resets for the specific artifact (i.e., resetting the Eyeblink threshold does not reset the Range threshold).

When the thresholds defined for each artifact are not exceeded, the lamp associated with that artifact will be green. When the threshold limits are exceeded, the lamp will be red.

  • Muscle: This is a measure of the isolated muscle activity in the signal.
  • Eyeblink: This is a measure of the isolated eyeblinks in the signal.
  • Range: This is the range of your signal's amplitude. A high range indicates high artifact activity in your data.

Note

The y-axis auto-scales independently for each plot once data streaming commences.

By default, when the bossapp is started, the artifact thresholds are set arbitrarily high so that they are never exceeded. This allows for triggering during times of noisy signal. Thresholds must be set for each session. The appropriate values for these thresholds will vary by person and protocol. In general, it is appropriate to set the thresholds so that the value stays within the valid range for 5 seconds.
