Oscillations Tab
Oscillations Selection Box
The "Oscillations" tab displays the metrics of the phase target. The bossdevice is continuously calculating these metrics for all three phase targets (alpha, beta, and theta) in real-time and you can switch the display between them in the "Oscillation" selection box on the left. Only one phase target can be displayed at a time.
Tune Filters
The peak frequency within a frequency band (alpha/beta/theta) varies between people. This button allows you to set the peak frequency on an individual session basis. You can also change the lowpass filter cutoff here.
Note
- This field should be updated for each subject and session if modified (i.e. update every time you start a new session).
- The bossdevice must be on and connected before tuning filters.
Amplitude
Amplitude is the only threshold that can be set or modified. You can adjust the minimum amplitude threshold by clicking on the y-value in the "Amplitude" plot. To reset the amplitude to its default value, click "Reset Threshold".
The appropriate values for the amplitude threshold will vary by person and protocol. In general, it is appropriate to set the threshold so that the value stays within the valid range for 5 seconds.
Note
By default, when the bossapp is started, the minimum amplitude threshold is set to zero. You must adjust the threshold for each session to appropriate values.
Phase
The phase plot shows the predicted real-time phase of the relevant oscillation plotted over time. In cases where the relevant oscillation is present, the plotted signal looks like a sawtooth pattern.
Note
The phase threshold should be set during periods of such a sawtooth pattern, i.e., during periods of stable resting EEG with alpha/beta/theta oscillation.
Frequency
The frequency plot shows the estimated mean peak frequency within the frequency band target of your subject in real-time.
Warning
The mean peak frequency is computed based on the filtered EEG data for every oscillation. Therefore, this value is not independent and may vary based on other settings such as the low-pass and band-pass filter coefficients.
Instability
The instability plot visualizes how much the peak frequency of your target oscillation varies over time.
